While I was over in London I managed to catch up with curvy fashion guru Rachel Adegeye ! Rachel has been a key contributor to body issues and beauty in the U.K which led her to establishing RFA beauty.com. This beautiful Nigerian native dealt with bullying and struggled to fit in from a young age. She is now a motivational speaker and stylist who indulges her creativity into all things fashionable. I was delighted to have the opportunity to interview her and find out her style tips for all you lovely ladies! Enjoy! Lou ! xxx 1: How did your love of fashion and beauty develop into the successful RFA beauty? I have always loved fashion and beauty, watching my mum get ready was the highlight of my childhood, she paid great attention to detail from her hair, to her makeup, her accessories and her shoes, she would clip on earrings to the front part of her shoes to add sparkle, I was amazed by this. But honestly RFA Beauty is more than just fashion and beauty, it’s my way of giving back, it all stems from when I was heavily bullied as a teen for being ‘fat and ugly’. I never wanted to react by giving the same treatment, instead I chose to turn it into something positive and show that your inner beauty is more important than the outer beauty as this type of beauty last longer. You can read more about this on the website: www.rfabeauty.com 2: What is your favourite item of clothing in your wardrobe? I always reach for my Harem pants; they can be dressed up or dressed down and definitely comfortable for all occasions. They come in a variety of styles, materials, colours and can never get boring. 3: Out of all your work through RFA beauty what has been the most interesting? Definitely the photography, the camera always captures the things that the eye cannot see. It is really beautiful to see all the sides of a person through the lens. 4: Your digital styling pieces are fantastic, what are your inspirations? Everything I see and feel are my inspirations, from art, to music, to emotions, these really help me develop a personal style that stands out. 5:Who would you pick as your top 3 style icons and role models? Grace Jones, Prince and Roisin Murphy, they are more than fashion; they have substance and something to give back through fashion and music which I am all about. They have the ‘no nonsense’ and ‘I don’t care’ attitude and really stay true to themselves. 6: What do you think is the worst trend at the moment? Leggings, as much as I love and wear them ‘daily’, there are so many people who wear leggings wrong, it’s not for every shape and should NOT be worn as trousers. I think the bum and front should be covered, a little modesty goes a long way. 7: What are the key things you tend to look out for selecting clothes for a shoot? The cut, the fit and comfort, it is very important to make sure that the clothes sit correctly on the body to accentuate the body to its best. 8: What do you think is a Key piece every curvy girl should have in her wardrobe? A Maxi dress, this does wonders for the body, its shows enough but covers a multiple of sins. Can be sexy yet subtle which is a thumbs up. 9: As most of us are tightening up the purse string at the moment, what would you consider as something worth investing in or something we should be cutting back on? Blazers are a must, they work with almost every style, whether you’re a glamour puss or a rock chick, you can never go wrong with a well cut blazer. 10: What would be your biggest style and beauty tips for all the style me curvy readers? Accentuate, don’t exaggerate and keep it clean and classy. 11: What is your opinion on curves in the fashion industry? I honestly believe designers are not paying enough attention to the curvier body, fair enough more and more curvy models are being added to the runway, but the clothes are not fitted or designed to suit, the clothes are just thrown on them and make them look bigger than they are. It’s all about how the clothes fit on the body, not how the body fits in the clothes. 12: With your knowledge in beauty and fashion, what advice would you give to a reader who might be insecure in their body image? Stay around positive people and those that love you for you, learn and grow to love and appreciate yourself, remember that there is always someone in a worse place that you so be thankful. Do not follow trends, create your own trend, this way there is no right or wrong and you can feel free to be yourself. Thank you so much for wanting to interview me for RFA Beauty.
