Meet Philomena , the latest edition to Excel Models 1 . This curvy Ghanaian beauty standing tall as a size 16, has leaped into the plus size modeling scene after winning a modeling competition ran in conjunction with Evans , Style 369 and Models 1.
She says :
βI hope to use this as a platform by which I can hopefully empower girls and young women like myself. I also want to be a figurehead for young girls today who sometimes may become disillusioned by βthe glamorous lifestyle”
She continues to another message which I think is really important, stating that she wants to
” spread the message that there is beauty in everything: every shape, color, size, and height β¦ whatever. We are all beautiful.β
The images posted throughout this blog post, displays her most recent shoot which has just appeared in this months Cosmopolitan UK edition. When I purchased the magazine this week it was interesting to see how they didn’t label the cover with ‘curvy edition’ or ‘plus size’. It points to a change that society and fashion may slowly be pointing to a greater integration of curves for every shape and size naturally – without having to over emphasize it every time a curvier woman is featured in the media. I think its brilliant, and more so for Philomena who is just at the birth of her modelling career to be engaged in such a great shoot and magazine. Well done to both Cosmo & Philomena! π Yay for curves! π
