Last month I was delighted to be asked to be a guest blogger for a U.K company called Gorgeous Couture. I was given an exclusive preview of their stunning celebrity dress collections for 2012 including their new Swarvoski range. From here I had to analyse the collections and chose my favourite four styles for curvy girls. For those of you that missed the piece, I’ve posted a copy of it below.

“Hunting for couture wear for most curvy women is a demanding, time consuming and oftentimes a tear jerking task. For my last formal event I must have seen every kind of changing room from Bond street to Oxford street to my home town of Dublin. It was the thought of the night that kept me going along with a caffeine drip from Starbucks 🙂 (Metaphorically speaking!) . Of course I came across some nice dresses but when it comes to formal occasions, let’s face it, you want more than just “nice”. You want drop dead gorgeous.. or in this case Gorgeous Couture. Truth be told they have just made every woman’s life so much easier with designer and celebrity looks for every shape, colour choice and dress size with their ‘made to measure’ option. The most appealing part is that their dresses come with a very reasonable price tag, and no girls it’s not too good to be true! So here are my favorite pieces for every kind of curve. Look 1 : The Gilly maxi dress This stunning one shoulder cobalt blue ensemble comes from their signature collection. It is the perfect choice for pear shaped (Beyonce) and diamond shaped (Oprah) body types. The material is made of Italian Jersey which is a flattering material to wear. The rouched detailing gathers perfectly around the waist line, which then falls into a perfect A-line drape. As a pear shape, thighs and bum are in greater proportion to your shoulders and chest. The use of a cross cut one shoulder element evens out the body, giving the illusion of more goddess like womanly curves. This style was a huge success with celebrities this year such as Kelly Rowland, Daisy Lowe and most recently by Angelina Jolie in an Altelier Versace dress at the 2012 Oscars. She embraced both the slit of the dress and her curves in a sultry and sophisticated way. Look 2: The Lacey dress This beautiful Grecian style body con works perfectly for either pencil shape or hourglass curves. For pencil shapes, the belted Swarvoski detailing will draw attention to your waistline making it look like the smallest part of your body, therefore giving the illusion of a curvy silhouette. For hourglass shapes ( you lucky creatures!) this will embrace those wonderful curves god gave you. As it is double layered it will also add to a perfectly smooth silhouette. This style is extremely popular with curvettes such as Kim Kardashian and Scarlett Johanssen, as well as pencil frames such as Kate Beckinsale, Demi Moore and Cameron Diaz. Look 3: The Amelia dress I’ve chosen this piece as a key dress for a diamond shaped frame. Shapes like this are the opposite to hourglass, so the use of the V-neck plunge combined with the draped material will give the effect of a bigger bust. As a result it will give more of an even shape. Most diamond shapes have a flat bum, but as the bottom half of the dress has a rouched body con effect, it will add to some extra “booty”. Hooray! 🙂 This style is also ideal for women who are petite and curvy under 5ft 4”. Add some killer heels and a clutch, preferably a bold bright colour, and voila, your done! Look 4 : The liberty maxi dress Grecian style dresses are an extremely flattering style for practically every body type, but it’s particularly favourable for apple shaped women. This asymmetric maxi style gown is a perfect figure flattering number. The choice of the Italian crepe fabric is ideal for anyone hoping to hide any lumps and bumps, combined with the Swarvoski embellishments you’re guaranteed to look like a curvy goddess. This style has been a number one favourite so far with designers such as Givenchy and Giambattista Valli, incorporating the maxi and Grecian styles creations into their haute couture collection for Spring Summer 2012. It is also a key favourite for Hollywood stars such as Catherine Zeta Jones and Drew Barrymore. Kelly Osbourne was also featured in a similar style at this years Grammy Awards ceremony! With such a broad selection in choices with all their new arrivals, there really is no limit on style for any kind of shape or frame. Gorgeous Couture have not compromised sophistication, glamour or timeless appeal towards curves of any size. It is for this reason that I consider them as my ‘go-to’ guru’s of online formal fashion.”
