I was on a shoot last month where I worked along side make up artist Ken Boylan. Ken is well known within the Irish beauty industry and has travelled widely as an international make-up artist. All the products on the shoot were by his own brand, Play make-up, which I was quite interested to know more about. Ken and his partner, who is a professor and lecturer in pharmaceutical science, went to Canada to tailor make the range down to the finest ingredient.
I ended up getting a few products as a result. Firstly I tried out the Sheer Glo illuminator from Play ( Bronze Glo Shade). It gives a beautiful glow to your foundation. Use it as either a highlighter or add it into your foundation for a nice lift. I really liked it as a product and it suited my skin so I went to Kens store recently to purchase the Play HD foundation.
I’ve been working on some TV projects recently I’ve had to change up my foundation. Sometimes on camera, foundation can come across very different than in real life. My usual day make-up has been too light and my evening make-up, Mac Studio fix, has been too heavy. Kens HD foundation worked out as a happy medium between the two. The HD foundation gives your skin a silk like texture as well as making you look like you’ve actually had a few hours extra sleep, which was certainly welcomed.
For eyes I tend to stick with neutrals such as browns and golds. The Play make-up palette in 003 has three shades of brown. One matte and two glitter pigments. In the photo above, I applied the lightest shade first which is more of a copper colour. Then I added some light brown and accentuated parts of my lid with the matte dark brown. Very little pigment is needed on your make-up brush so apply it softly. The quality of the eye shadows were brilliant and the size fits perfectly into even the smallest of clutch bags. The palette comes in various shades a sizes which you can seehere.
