News finally broke yesterday that Mango are set to launch their first plus size collection, Violeta by Mango, in 2014. There had been suggestions throughout the year that it might be on the cards and now it has arrived. The collection will feature 400 pieces with new items added each month from clothing to accessories with sizes ranging from an EU 40-52 or 12-24.
As much as I am delighted that Violetta has evolved, bringing stylish and good quality clothing in bigger sizes, I find that launching a ‘plus size’ range with these sizes is still quite limited. Mainly a plus size collection would cater towards a 26 or even 32. As they choose to stop at a 24, I would have preferred they took a leaf out of Primarks book by integrating sizes 12-24 into their main line clothing range permanently.
The expansion of this line is starting in baby steps with stores initially stocking the collection in Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Turkey and Russia . As for the rest of Europe it will be available on line with the hopes to have Violetta in over 100 stores by the end of 2014. Unfortunately it won’t be available in the U.S at the start of the New Year but I would imagine depending on popularity it would be available online in no time. Criticism aside, I am glad another retailer has brought bigger sizes to their company and I have no doubt the pieces will be beautiful.
