This weeks outfit is more of a casual chic look. With the weather becoming increasingly unreliable it was time I went to the wild side and buy myself… a fedora hat! A hat which has been an extremely valued purchase. It can jazz up any outfit instantly, help keep hair in some order when mother nature is playing up, and of course, most importantly – helping to cover up a bad hair day.
By chance Debenhams asked me to review a pair of their new skinny jeans for their own social media. As a curvy girl I know the frustration us ladies go through to try and find a good pair of fitted jeans. As a result I was more than happy to accept the review and of course this secretly meant I would get to give my new hat its blogging debut too. 🙂
We caught up with @StyleMeCurvy to find out about her fav pair of skinny jeans. Doesn’t she look fab? #Lovedenim pic.twitter.com/rJgMerDI0o — Debenhams Ireland (@DebenhamsIRE) January 31, 2014
The jeans are from the new J by Jasper Conran shape enhancing range which I was quite impressed with. They come in two types skinny and bootcut offering both a standard or a high waist line ranging from a size 8-18 (they 18 could fit up to size 20). Pros and cons, they don’t come in a tall range but the regular size are quite generous in length. They do however come in a petite style.
The sizes are generous, I opted for a size 14 (42 EU), the fit was snug but they felt comfortable and didn’t seem to get a baggy look off them around the bum after a few hours. It’s the first time in a very long time that I didn’t have to wear a belt as they material held up well on its own. I’m sure over time they will stretch but for the moment I am more than pleased. They washed very well with the colour staying a strong indigo blue. I paired the look with this statement ‘Own It!’ T-shirt from New Look, my leather jacket – seen here and my Zara handbag.
To dress it up:
For dressing up jeans in our current climate, this long line biker coat instantly changes up a casual denim look into something more sophisticated. Under the coat I went for a plain silk black top. I wanted to add some colour to the look, which called for my deep purple heels and my fuchsia clutch that happens to be a very popular colour for Spring Summer. Tips for buying jeans: – When shopping for jeans always bring two or even three different sizes with you to the changing room. Every brand is different when it comes to sizing and fit. – Squat! – This is the best way to see how they fit on your derrière, whether the material holds to your body (a keeper), sags or cuts too low for your liking (put them back). – Wide leg or flared styles are great if you need to balance out your body or if you are carrying some weight around your tummy (avoid low rise jeans in this case). – If you do find your ideal pair of jeans buy two pair! Don’t wait until you have worn them to death to discover you can’t get them again. 🙂 – If you want more shape to your bum – look for jeans with a folded back pocket, a longer line back pocket or embellished detail which will add more of a filled look to your jeans. – If you have a long torso – opt for high waisted jeans giving the illusion of long and lean legs. – The most flattering colour on everyone is certainly Indigo blue. Lighter shades may not be as flattering but they are great for a Summer look. – If you’rw are plus size never be told you can’t wear skinny jeans. EVERYONE can wear skinny jeans.
