A Touch Of Romance

Autumn Winter Fashion Week for 2014 saw the return of Renaissance and Baroque romantic inspiration in a big way. It’s one of my favourite trends this season particularly as the colour palette is extremely easy to wear and extremely sophisticated – think rich royal colours from wines, emerald greens, golds and lacey black numbers to instantly channel a designer look this season.

For today I’ve opted for something quite full and glamourous as a number of readers have contacted me looking for occasion wear inspiration as well as effortless ways to hide a tummy area. And so I bring you this on trend, tummy friendly post! 🙂

Sometimes when the dresses are just not ticking the right boxes for you, skirts are a fantastic occasion wear option. This full skirt style is from Coast which is a stunning wine shade. Here I’m wearing a size 18 so I would say the fit would be small so I would recommend going up a size depending on your measurements around your waist.

What I liked about it the most was that it has a thicker band than most full skirts around the waistline which will give the illusion of a defined waist and hourglass effect. It’s exceptionally good quality with silk lining and a number of tulle layers which essentially make you feel like a princess as you walk. 🙂

For tops, you want to keep it clean and minimalist. I opted for this chiffon number from Next that I found flows perfectly over the body and also works great with jeans! It has a gentle V neckline which isn’t too open so it’s ideal for those with a fuller bust as it gives more of a reduced look which you can see from above.

If you’re looking for a light jacket to go with this look then a cropped blazer is ideal particularly as it’s not too heavy, so if you prefer more arm coverage this is a great way to go about it. Alternatively a light black shawl or faux fur would look equally pretty. As the skirt is so colourful and I’ve balanced the top half with black I would stick to the same colour chart for choosing a jacket to keep in line with a streamlined look.

For accessories, in keeping with the modern romance trend, I opted for vintage inspired feminine pieces. The necklaces are actually a set from the new Millie Mackintosh collection for Dorothy Perkins, and this ring is from Diva* at Miss Selfridge. So ladies, is this Renaissance inspired trend something you would consider this Autumn/ Winter?
