As the last remains of Summer weather is well and truly behind us, I still wanted to try and keep my wardrobe just as bright and colourful for this season. For today’s post I’ve found two key pieces which will help me do just that. A tartan skirt and a beautiful long lined heavy blazer from Next which individually will help to brighten up darker items in your wardrobe.
The tartan trend is hugely popular this season with designers such as Stella McCartney, Marc by Marc Jacobs and Chloe all embracing variations of tartan and checkered print classics. This tartan skirt I came across was ideal for what I was looking for in todays post. A look that was smart and one which you could easily dress down for a more casual feel- which you can check out on my Instagram account. However to avoid a tartan skirt resembling a tribute to Britney Spears, what you pair this with is most important – i.e avoid a white shirt at all costs! haha.
The colours choices in this skirt, red, navy, black and white make it easy to mix and match with other items in your wardrobe. Here I’m wearing a size 16 as it sits just nicely below my waist. The pleats give a gentle kick out effect so for those looking to cover a tummy area this style of skirt will work wonders. For a more casual look, pairing this skirt with black tights or leggings will immediately dress this look down accompanied with some biker boots to give it a nice edge.
I paired the skirt with this gorgeous red long lined blazer which has more coat like qualities to it as its quite warm. This blazer would be ideal for tall girls paired with jeans or dresses as it would sit just slightly shorter than seen above. I liked the fact that it gave more of a sophisticated edge to it and because it’s a vibrant colour, a simple black longsleeve black top underneath is all that is needed. I accessorized it with a simple biker style chain fromNext and some very simple strap heel shoes to balance out a layered and colourful look.
To finish off accessories this beautiful leather bag with faux pony skin detail was ideal. It gives an outfit an extra layer of interest and holds everything you could possibly need at the same time!
