Coat shopping tips :

Oversized or cocoon shapes can be off putting for many people as some feel you will look bigger than you are. 90% of the time you will have to go down a size or even two sizes in this style to ensure it fits correctly on the back. Once you have this correct, everything else will fall into place giving you a relaxed fit look but one which won’t swamp your body.

If definition is what you are looking for in a coat then opt for items which give a fit and flared effect or which have some kind of belt around the waistline  – not a belt around the hip area as this will add volume to your body.

If you are a diamond or athletic shape – where you would find your shoulders are the broadest part of your body, look towards coats which have a faux fur trim which will create better proportions to your shape giving more of a streamlined look. If you are an apple or pear shape, be sceptical of double breasted styles as they can appear unflattering very quickly around the tummy area. Instead look towards A-line cuts and side zip biker styles to create an illusion of a curvy waistline. For petites, try to look for coats which finish around the knee or above. Anything longer than this will make you appear much shorter than you are. For big busts aim for coats that are V-Cut around the neckline – coats which button all the way to the top can make you look smothered and oftentimes uncomfortable. V-shaped necklines give a highly flattering shape to bustlines and your overall silhouette. Lou.x
