How To Work The Cape Trend For Curvy Girls

Last year the cape trend definitely caught my eye and it’s something which is everywhere to be seen this season. For curvy girls, capes can be quite a turn off for fear of looking frumpy or consuming your frame. Today’s post tackles the topic of styling the cape to ensure the latter doesn’t happen!

At the Oasis press day this gem happened to be in my press bag and it was love at first site. I have gotten more wear out of it than I could have ever imagined. Because I travel a lot it’s an extremely cosy travel companion. You can belt it, use it in more of a wrap effect, layer it over a biker jacket for extra warmth or simply as worn in today’s outfit post.

To make cape styles work for your frame regardless of your size, you want to ensure you’re wearing fitted pieces. Avoid loose looking dresses, baggy jeans, anything which hides your shapes as it will make you look bigger than you are. Today I’ve put together a very simple but effective style, black skinny jeans with slight knee rips, a long sleeved polo neck for the autumn, and a fedora to give a chic finish. This look works perfectly with flat boots or high heels making it an easy to restyle look for either a casual to more of a dressed up feel.

Outfit ideas for styling a cape look:

– Try an a-line dress with over the knee boots.

– A fitted LBD, black tights and biker boots for a comfortable yet chic day look.

– An a-line skirt above the knee, fitted long sleeve top with nude look tights and heels.

– Go matchy-matchy with a blue fitted denim shirt and ripped blue wash skinny jeans.
