One of the most exciting makeup collaborations possibly of the entire year for me is definitely the Urban Decay and Gwen Stefani palette*. Now perhaps I am slightly biased as I’ve been a massive fan of Gwen for as long as I can remember. The collaboration just fits so incredibly well both for what Urban Decay stands for as a brand coinciding with Gwen Stefani as a fierce independent woman we all love. It’s landed just in time for Christmas too so if you have any makeup junkies in your family and you’re not too sure what to buy then this post might be of interest!
The firstly the packaging. It’s much more hand bag friendly than the Urban Decay Vice Palette which I liked as I usually need easy to pack makeup palettes for travelling. The design is a girly punk rock style with a combination of monochrome, gold and polka dots which represents Gwen’s love for black and white graphic prints as well as antique effects. When you open the palette you will be greeted by 15 various shimmer shades from the everyday essentials and easy to wear shades of soft pinks, nudes and browns; to the more adventurous bold blue, neon pink, yellow and blacks. There is lots of sentimental touches throughout with shades names after No Doubt – ‘ 1987’ the year the band formed, No Doubt Song such as ‘Bathwater’ and ‘ Steady’ and ‘ Anaheim’ as in Anaheim California where she grew up. 12 shades are completely brand new designed by Gwen and the team at Urban Decay (UD) with 3 shades being from the general UD collection. Now the only downfall for me was the fact there was no makeup brush as this is something I like to have in a palette but as the colours are so gorgeous all is forgiven!

I’ve featured a lot of natural eyeshadow looks over the years, so for today I wanted to do a slightly different look for this palette. For those who just want to dip their toes into a stronger shade, opting for browns and darker tones on the lid while using a bold colour under the eye will help to do just that. I used Gwen’s blue shade called Danger under the eye. When applied it gives more of a purple hue which worked really well. While this is more of an adventurous look for me, I really loved it and it’s also something so wearable as a Christmas party look or for New Year’s Eve if you wanted something different.
