A shoot I worked on a few months ago came out today. It was something I really loved working on with a creative theme of “Into The Woods”. What’s more was that it was a beauty shoot which is a style I thoroughly enjoy as a model, particularly as a curvy/ plus size model. Within the fashion industry you seldom see curvier girls picked for beauty shoots or beauty campaigns so I always love pushing these kind of boundaries. The team involved in this shoot were a creative dream all of whom share the same vision and love to achieve something different. From photography to hair, makeup and styling these ladies are incredibly successful visionary powerhouses who have worked everywhere from L.A, New York, Paris to South Africa. It was bound to be a pretty interesting day and so it was!
The three stages of big hair!
Jenni Crawford is a very well known hair creative from Dublin who has worked all around the world. For some wood like inspiration it was all about ‘Big Hair Don’t Care’. For the shoot Jenni put a huge amount of time into the finest details from finely spraying hair pieces into flat layers to create a gauze effect around my neckline. She also hand painted leaves and petals she had acquired over the days leading up to the shoot. Needless to say there was a lot of backcombing, bobby pins and endless amounts of hairspray to achieve the final look.
Makeup and Styling
In keeping with the “Into The Woods” theme, makeup artist Naomh Kirwin opted for quite earthy neutral tones. All of the products she used on the day were from Mac including the foundation, Mac Studio Fix. Naomh did incredible contouring while keeping the eyes as the central focus with a smoky brown and black matte effect as well as perfectly groomed brows. For styling celebrity stylist to the stars, Grace Moore, had an incredible range of faux fur shawls, various lace tops, statement to the more intricate jewellery. She opted for a multicoloured faux fur from M&S and a black and leather detailed top from River Island.
Straight From The Camera
The shots above in camera terms would be considered raw and untouched. You can see here that photographer Lorna Fitzsimmons has kept the final images almost identical as to what you see above. I’ve worked with Lorna a number of times over the years on various catalogue shoots. I always call her the lighting guru as she really knows how to enhance the slightest feature with a lighting set up. I could watch her work for hours on end!
