Velvet in the world of fashion tends to have it’s moment in the limelight every few years around Wintertime. And for 2016 it has certainly come back in full circle with a bang! It’s a trend that you are sure to find in every designer to high street store possible at the moment. However, it’s also in the category of one of the more trickier fabrics to work for your body – if you have either a big bust to being extra curvy on the hips or tummy area, it’s a fabric which can highlight and stretch in the wrong areas, but when done right you have a beautiful Winter and Christmas look blending both comfort and style together blissfully. With this in mind, I wanted to show a key look that would work on a wide variety of body types so to do so I’ve teamed up with Primark today with an outfit that would be both festive and on trend.
As bomber jacket styles are a total trend favourite this year I opted for this luxurious and bold sequined style which is broken up with velvet clusters. It’s a wonderful option for the party season to be worn as seen today either or to jazz up something in your wardrobe.
Ways to wear the velvet sequinned bomber :
– Paired with a Little Black Dress
– Casual cool: Black ripped jeans, a statement t-shirt
– A black culotte jumpsuit
– Tailored cigarette trousers and a simple top
I teamed the look with a classic black velvet pencil skirt. Something which you will get a huge amount of mileage out of and for €8 it’s a bargain find too! This particular one is extremely soft and curve friendly, hugging the body delicately as opposed to sticking to your frame like a lot of pencil skirts can do. This is a great style for apple shapes, pear, hourglass and rectangle frames as it will give you curves in all the right places. Using the combination of the bomber jacket with this skirt works as a great illusion for those looking to embrace a pencil style yet balancing your frame at any size for petite to plus size.
As this is a festive velvet ensemble, I’ve kept it streamlined in all black but with texture. Looking for tops to pair with velvet style skirts, you’ll find slightly looser tops to be more flattering if you hold weight around your tummy area; or perhaps you are fuller buster look to something with a delicate v-cut neckline. I added this body suit which fused the two together. It’s actually fitted at the lower part and loose around the midriff area making it a perfect partner for high waisted skirts so you don’t have to worry about your top coming loose throughout the evening.
Accessories:
To keep in line with a velvet theme I added a thin velvet choker and some velvet chunky platform heels. The thicker heel means you get more balance and tends to be more foot friendly for dancing a festive night away. For clutch bags go as colourful or as simple as you like. For today I just kept it very simple with a black and gold clip clutch enough for all party makeup essentials!
