Prepping for Fashion Month also means preparing for A/W at the exact same time. In today’s post I’ve concentrated on the 3 key pieces I’ve already gotten great wear out of and I’m certain will be great staples to have in my A/W closet. They include 1) The Burgundy Dress 2) The A/W Bag and 3) The Statement Shoes. And while I do believe investing is high quality which will last you longer, I think the pieces today are of good value for a broad selection of taste buds. I’ll add a gallery at the bottom of this post also for those who want more of a selection in styles and pieces which will work for people in various parts of the world! 🙂
The Burgundy Dress
Why Burgundy? Each year without fail it’s an A/W favourite and to be honest this is something you can keep in your wardrobe happily for a few years. This particular dress is from the River Island Premium line where you’ll find the quality would be of more of a designer appeal – a slightly higher price point for at €107 but still extremely reasonable and I figured it will work for various occasions, or if I was in one of those ” unsure of the dress code” situations a biker jacket paired with this will dress it down immediately. Other pros include that you can wear black tights with it in the Winter and it will still look just as chic!
A/W Bags Of Style
While you all know at this stage that accessories of any kind are my weakness and how I love anything with a biker effect! I had seen this bag on the Zara website for some time and I did debate over it. While in New York it was sitting neatly on a glass pane in my direct eyeline.. it was calling me! – Well so I like to think anyway ( justification of purchase and all that jazz!). It’s real leather and came in at around the €85 mark, which brings me to my point about a good quality bag for A/W. You want something that’s going to be able to work with your wardrobe but won’t let you down when you get tested by mother nature in rain, sleet or snow – something that’s reliable and always looks smart! There are plenty of brands that do great leather and vegan friendly bags at reasonable price points. The Italians in particular just know how to make an incredible handbag full stop so always look at the label where it’s made – you can find brilliant gems in TK Maxx, The Outnet, Paul Costelloe’s handbag collection ( made in Italy and reasonably priced), Banana Republic and not forgetting charity shops which are full of great gems when you get lucky on the right delivery day!
Statement Shoes:
Classic strap heels will always be a wardrobe essential, as are classic nude heels, but having something that blends modern with a twist of classic will surprisingly come in quite useful – especially on those panic outfit days or nights out when you need something to jazz up a simple pair of jeans. These were my pre NYFW bargain finds – €7 in Primark / Penneys and yes they are seriously comfortable! While I can’t link this pair online you might have luck finding them still in store but I’ve also added some similar styles in the widget below that are of reasonable price point and for those who prefer to splurge on designer only styles I’ve added options of course too.
